(Breaking The Promise)
This is a  bilingual children and teens  folktale ( Somali-English)
A long time a go, there was a man who traveled to see a family who lived in a far place. He traveled for a number of days and nights. The journey was difficult and there was severe drought, heat and hunger. During the journey he had run out of the small provision he was carrying. Then he sat under a tree. While the man was lying in the shade of the tree, a hyena that looked tired and in need of rest sat on the other side of the tree. The traveler was scared because he knew he was very weak and
would not be able to defend himself against the hyena. He prepared himself for death. The hyena was happy and wanted to eat the man sleeping under the tree. He approached the man and when he saw his weakness he felt pity for him and decided to leave him alone and not eat him. The hyena sat at the
other end of the tree!.
